You don't have to manage on your own

Feeling understood by someone is one of the most validating and empowering experiences which can facilitate change.

Psychotherapist and counsellor in Market Harborough and Milton Keynes

Hello, I’m Elizabeth. Welcome to my website.

I am an experienced UKCP registered (accredited) Psychotherapist & Counsellor providing psychotherapy and counselling in Market Harborough, Leicestershire and Milton Keynes (Stony Stratford).

If you’re feeling stuck and not sure what to do next to make life better, you’ve come to the right place.

Therapy tailored to you

My therapy is ‘person-centred’ which means I tailor my work to your needs and create a safe, confidential, non-judgemental therapeutic space. You are free to explore challenging issues in order to bring about change in your life.

Why would I want counselling or psychotherapy?

Do you worry about being judged or think your problems aren’t ‘bad’ enough to involve someone else? Perhaps you can’t see how exploring your difficulties with another person can actually help.

You are not alone.

Many people are nervous about trying counselling or psychotherapy and it’s often the last thing they choose to help themselves. Yet often they wish they’d accessed support earlier and felt relief at sharing their troubles with a trusted professional.

Why choose me?

For therapy to be effective it’s important to choose a therapist that you can connect with and build a trusting relationship with. Your therapist should also be prepared to work with you, supporting you through your experiences.

I have been described as being warm, understanding, ‘normal’, down-to-earth, patient, insightful and having an ‘ear’ for detail. My clients’ are often pleasantly surprised at how much I remember, which demonstrates just how carefully I listen. I’m particularly skilled at supporting clients make sense of their experiences.

I currently work with individuals, either on an open-ended basis or for a mutually agreed time period, with the aim of enabling every client to improve their life and live it more fully.

What issues are okay to bring to therapy?

These are just some examples and clients may wish to tackle one or several of these at a time. Either way, I’m experienced working with:

  • General anxiety / social anxiety
  • Depression
  • Relationship / family issues
  • Stress
  • Abuse (physical, verbal, sexual, emotional)
  • Bereavement (current and/or past)
  • Addiction (e.g. food, alcohol, drugs, exercise)
  • Autistic spectrum conditions (e.g. Aspergers)
  • Eating problems (e.g. emotional eating / binge eating, bulimia)
  • Work related issues (e.g. stress, bullying, redundancy, and management issues)
  • And many others not listed.

  • How will I benefit from therapy?

Everybody is different. Some people want to change their situation, while others need the space to make sense of an experience or just wish to find a way of feeling like themselves again.

The following are examples of changes I’ve seen in my practice.

    Clients have:

  • Returned to work after a period of absence caused by stress.
  • Found ways of coping with a bereavement.
  • Obtained clarity about what they wanted from their career.
  • Developed self-acceptance and self-care to improve their health and wellbeing.
  • Found new ways of coping with stressful situations.
  • Developed ways of managing their anxiety.
  • Reduced their reliance on anti-depressants.
  • Improved their relationship with partner / family member(s)
  • Created a better work/life balance.
